DENVER, Colo., (November 2, 2011) — Jones International University® (JIU®) is pleased to announce that Richard Cox has been appointed as the University’s president, effective September 28. In this role, Mr. Cox will oversee the overall strategic planning and sustained expansion of the University. Mr. Cox previously served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the University.
“Richard has a profound passion for democratizing education and a keen grasp of the technology that enables it. He also has a vast background that directly bears on student service. It is a delight to welcome him to the University’s top executive role. His leadership will be tremendously positive for our students,” said the University’s founder Glenn R. Jones.
Mr. Cox first joined JIU as Senior Vice Chancellor, Student Service and Support before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in June, 2011. As Senior Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Cox was responsible for the core operational units of JIU, including student admissions and support, the Office of the Registrar, student recruitment, and military and corporate alliance programs. In addition, he oversaw all technology support functions for JIU.

Prior to joining JIU, Mr. Cox served as Vice President of Customer Experience at Orbitz Worldwide, a leading online travel company. In that capacity, Mr. Cox provided organizational strategy and was responsible for customer care, quality assurance, vendor management, and workforce management. Mr. Cox began his career at WorldSpan, a travel technology and content provider offering electronic distribution of travel information, Internet products, and connectivity. He held several positions over his eleven-year tenure at WorldSpan, the final position having been Director of Worldwide Operations.
Mr. Cox earned an MBA from Kennesaw State University in Georgia and a B.A. in business administration, management from Liberty University in Virginia. He also completed a course on System Dynamics for Senior Managers at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
