Jones International University Named Top Military Friendly School

DENVER, Colo., (January 11, 2010)—Jones International University® (JIU®), the first fully online accredited university,* once again receives accolades for its efforts supporting military students in their higher education endeavors by two publications highly esteemed in the military community.

JIU takes pride in its recent rankings as a top military friendly school by Military Advanced Education (MAE), a leading journal of higher learning for service members. In MAE’s 3rd Annual Guide to Military Friendly Colleges and Universities, JIU ranked among a small percentage of schools with “particularly commendable distance learning programs,” as well as “especially notable veterans support programs.” JIU’s recognition for both honors is especially prestigious, given that only “a select few on [the] list have more than one” special ranking.

JIU’s ranking in MAE comes immediately after their inclusion in the G.I. Jobs 2010 Guide to Military Friendly Schools, a list of 1,000 schools representing the top 15 percent “that are doing the most to embrace military students.” G.I. Jobs, a leading resource for service members seeking post-military success, provides expert education guidance to troops and their families. Over 7,000 institutions are considered annually for the issue, which “is determined through exhaustive research.”

Bruce Ricketts, JIU’s Vice Chancellor for Military Programs and a retired Commander from the Navy Reserves,  says, “We built our Military Advancement Program (MAP) on the foundation of meeting the needs of service members seeking promotion, job enhancement, personal fulfillment or post-military employment.  We aim to provide the best for those who serve our country and their families.  JIU is proud to offer them exceptional scholarships, award winning educational quality, and military friendly policies that support our Armed Forces.   Being recognized by two highly trusted publications for our efforts with the program is a true honor.”

JIU is a long-time supporter of service members and their families, offering financial aid specific to the military and a variety of payment options. JIU works closely with many military organizations to offer an advanced online learning format tailored to ensure that active duty, reserves, guard, veterans, military family members, DOD and DHS employees have the chance to better their education, careers and lives.

The words of JIU student Teresa Dooling speak to the quality of service and education received.

“I am a Reservist that spent many years on active duty.  I also am a spouse of an Active duty service member currently stationed in a small rural area that does not offer many opportunities for graduate education.  I decided that Jones International University is a wonderful university for the military. The teachers are great.  They work with the students and treat them like partners in their education.  They are very informative and helpful; they place the student’s success as a priority.”
