Society of Scholars
The seminal works of such individualized thinkers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle laid the foundation for the evolution of groups of intellectual explorers called “societies of scholars.”
Over time, these societies of philosophers and scientists demonstrated the rich scholarly cross-pollination that occurs when information and exploration are a shared pursuit.
In 1743, Benjamin Franklin founded the American Philosophical Society with Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison and other pragmatic thinkers. Together, they explored innovative ideas and solutions that helped to birth a new nation.
JIU is inspired by these scholars and by the digital collaboration-enabling tools that promote the opportunity for engaging and sharing of scholarship on a scale never before imagined in history. The JIU Society of Scholars was established to promote scholarly research and dialogue among our faculty, students and Fellows.
The pursuit of excellence is the hallmark of the JIU culture and education.
Welcome to the Society of Scholars.
