Admission Requirements, Bachelor Degree Programs

Applicants who are admitted into any bachelor degree program have met the following admission requirements:

  • Submit a completed application, available here by creating your own JIU password-protected account.
  • Submit evidence of prerequisite skills proficiency through one of four options:
  1. Official transcript that documents an earned high school diploma from an institution that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).
  2. Official Passing GED transcript or its equivalent.
  3. Official transcript that documents an earned associate degree or higher from a college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).
  4. Attestation of high school diploma or passing GED and an official transcript that documents 6 credit hours or more which must be acceptable for transfer to JIU from a college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).
Note: BBA specializations of Health Care Management and Technology Services Management require that students already have either an associate degree or certified training certificate in a related industry.
  • Applicants who are admitted into the Accelerated Bachelor to Masters Program (ABM) have higher requirements that can be demonstrated through one of the following three options:
  1. Official transcript that documents an earned high school diploma and GPA of 3.0 from an institution that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).
  2. Official transcript that documents an earned associate degree or higher and GPA of 3.0 or better from a college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).
  3. Attestation of high school diploma or passing GED and an official transcript that documents 9 credit hours or more which must be acceptable for transfer to JIU, and have a B or better from a college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (or its international equivalent).

Note: Students whose official high school transcript does not meet the GPA requirements for the accelerated program or students who have a passing GED transcript and no other transcripts, may enter the BBA or BABC programs and then transfer into the accelerated program after meeting the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement for 18 semester hours taken at JIU.

In University Program Transfers for ABM

Current JIU undergraduate students who wish file for a Change of Program into an Accelerated Bachelors to Masters program (ABM) must meet the following criteria:

  • Have completed a minimum of 18 credits in JIU coursework with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Students may not transfer across with more than 90 credits (any combination of JIU and transfer credits).

New students, who apply to an ABM program and were conditionally admitted, must meet the conditions within the specified time frame.

  • If conditions are not met at end of conditional period, that student will face dismissal.  After dismissal, the student can always re-apply to a different bachelor program if they meet those requirements.
  • If a student knows or learns (through documentation submitted to the Registrar's Office) that they will not meet the entry level GPA condition of 3.0 before the end of the conditional period, they may file for a Change of Program before the end of the period.  This does not reset the clock on the conditional period.  This request will only be accepted if the student's documentation does meet the 2.0 GPA standard for a different bachelor program.
    • Applicants to the Health Care or Technology Service Management Programs must meet those additional criteria before the end of the conditional period as well.
