2013 has been a terrific year for Jones International University. Though we’ve seen a few changes over the past twelve months, we have also had many moments of celebration of our students’ achievements, graduations, and success stories. We’ve also had the opportunity to give back to our local Denver neighbors and support our mission of education among the community that surrounds us. Overall, it has been a fantastic year in which we have furthered our mission to make education accessible to all students and lifelong learners. As the year comes to a close, we decided to poll some of the JIU staff on their favorite and most memorable moments of 2013. Read on to find out…
For me, from a community giveback perspective, hands down, the Denver Children’s Hospital MDT partnership was the most moving, inspiration and rewarding! Through this partnership, we donated $3000 to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Denver’s Medical Day Treatment Program. JIU’s donation provided $100 holiday shopping cards to each of the 27 kids in The Medical
Day Treatment Program (MDT) and allowed each child the opportunity to utilize the gift card to shop for themselves or to buy Christmas gifts for family members. The joy on the faces of those kids was worth every single email, phone call, and cent spent, to make it happen! I also enjoyed meeting Miguel Saenz. Miguel’s testimonial was powerful – he really helped us all understand the value of one’s time and how that time can be easily shifted, to accommodate school. He’s an inspiring man, with a great story, wonderful family and profound dreams for what he wants to do with his future! Here is a link to Miguel's story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS5ShTBl124
My favorite event of the year was filming Toni Hull's Commencement Address for the Class of 2013. She is such a positive, inpsiring person, and her enthusiam for life is contagious. I think she is a wonderful role model for our students.
This was my first year at JIU so there was a lot to learn, and since I oversee the marketing efforts for our military team, I also expanded my lexicon with military jargon! It’s been a great experience to learn more about those that serve our country and helping them better their future. It was also extremely rewarding to attend our Doctorate Hooding event. What a great accomplishment for those students and all our students who graduate!
Happy New Year to all our students, faculty, staff, and graduates of Jones International University. We wish you good health, happiness, and best wishes for 2014!
