This month we kicked off our “Where in the World is JIU” social media project. We know our students live in all corners of the country and many live abroad. But when confronted with our own busy lives of work, home, and school, sometimes we don’t think about how special it is to be a part of such a dynamic global community. Not many people get to say that they share their classes with people from India as well as Indiana, New York as well as York, England. The diversity in our student population provides us with the opportunity to learn unique perspectives from our peers – many of whom have often grown up in radically different environments than our own. Though we come from different backgrounds, we all share the same passion for education. As students, faculty and staff of JIU, we are very lucky to have this experience.
So here is the deal - we want to share our diversity with our online community. We are encouraging each student, faculty and staff member to take a picture of themselves with a JIU pennant. Show off your hometown, cool places you’ve traveled or a meaningful place. You may download and print a paper version of the pennant here, then snap your photo and email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Don’t forget to include your name, degree/area of study and the location of the photo. We’ll then post the photos to our Facebook page and Twitter feed for all to see “Where in the World is JIU!” Let’s see how many pennant photos we can get! Prizes will be awarded to the most creative and exotic photo locations!
