Student Profile – Joseph Ray

Posted on: June 26, 2013

We are always impressed by the amazing accomplishments of our JIU students and graduates.  This month we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Ray, who is just five weeks shy of completing his Master of Educational Administration degree from JIU’s School of Education. This fall Joseph plans to open a private school called N Front of Science Preparatory Academy, where he will act as principal and school administrator.  Read on below for Joseph’s description of N Front of Science Preparatory Academy!

“N Front of Science Preparatory Academy is the first of its kind.  We are an all male academy with a focus on S.T.E.M. ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). According to the Texas Education Agency, 80% of the students that engage in the STEM program move on to major in one of the respective fields. Our goal is to ensure parents that all of our young men will graduate and attend a top college.  There is a lot of talk about education reform, but very little talk about people reform.  We have the edge giving our focus of people reform.  It's useless to reform education if we don't reform the minds of both the teachers and the students.  Our recent partnership with the University of Texas at Dallas, ensures that our program will stand above the rest.  We've adopted the core curriculum with an emphasis on project based learning. The theme of our school is Commitment through Service. All of our students are required to pick an organization of their choice to join and volunteer at least 5 hours a week. We start preparing our students for the SAT and ACT in the 6th grade.  We intend to produce the highest number of Merit Scholars of any other all male academies. For more information on our school, visit our website at www.nfrontofscience.org.

Congratulations Joseph and best of luck to you in your new venture!
