Overview

This orientation course is the first step in the doctoral program. Candidates explore the challenges and opportunities of online learning, what’s expected of them, what they should expect from the JIU faculty, the structure of a typical JIU EdD course, and the tools available for candidates.

There are no course projects due for this orientation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe his or her purpose, goals, and motivation as a doctoral candidate at JIU.
  • Participate effectively in the doctoral colloquium.
  • Use new technology tools for communication and collaboration with his or her cohort and instructors.
  • Describe what he or she expects from JIU courses, teaching faculty, and the university.
  • Describe what JIU expects of him or her as a candidate.
  • Understand the skills required for success at JIU and know how to find out more about them.
  • Describe the resources available to JIU doctoral candidates and how to access them.
