Overview
This course introduces and explores the doctoral journey. Candidates develop the clear goals and reflective self-understanding required to develop a dissertation. The course functions in tandem with a candidate’s content courses. Candidates will complete tasks that revolve around:
- Establishing relationships that provide support during the next three years of doctoral work.
- Identifying a preliminary topic for their work.
To those ends, during this first cycle, candidates will:
- Begin an online portfolio
- Begin the process of working with a mentor
- Begin an online journal
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Define and publish clear and professional goals.

Develop a productive and helpful relationship with a mentor.

Begin a journal, which will serve as a source of qualitative data during dissertation development.

Communicate and share with a Community of Scholars.

Begin to define the subject and scope of the dissertation.
