Overview
This course is the first of a two-course sequence designed to help candidates develop the first chapter of their dissertation. In this course, candidates will learn the essential components of an introduction, write a first draft of their introduction outline, and review the advantages of peer review and the criticism that they will ultimately receive as they strive to meet the high standards established for scholarly writing, using American Psychological Association (APA) format.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Outline the components of the dissertation introduction.

Consider any relevant regulations or policies in their state, local government, or educational systems that might impact their research topic and the decisions they make with regard to using facilities, participants, and data gathering tools.

Provide and receive feedback on their developing project.

Demonstrate understanding of and accept the importance of criticism in scholarly work.

Develop an expanding References list.

Improve writing to meet scholarly standards, including the proper use of APA formatting and styles.

Update their EdD Journal, Milestone Contract, and Portfolio.
