Overview

Healthcare Adult Education Leadership covers the principles and practices of being a leader in a healthcare organization with adult education programs. It provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to accurately and completely developed and utilize principles, strategies and methodologies for leading healthcare adult education programs. The course blends two instructional strategies. First, the student explores the basic principles and related practices, strategies and methodologies of leadership in healthcare adult education programs. Second, the student applies these learned principles and practices in a sponsored synthesizing project applying adult education leadership principles, strategies and methodologies in a healthcare adult learning organization. 

The course project, Healthcare Adult Education Leadership, is designed to demonstrate mastery of the course objectives. The application of adult education leadership will be conducted for one of the sponsoring organization’s healthcare adult education programs. A final written report, Healthcare Adult Education Leadership, chronicling the process and outcomes of applying the learned leadership principles, strategies and methodologies for one of the sponsoring organization's healhcare adult education programs will be the synthesizing course project.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Analyze and explain the purpose, role and functions of healthcare adult education programs.
  • Develop strategies for addressing the challenges in designing education programs for the wide spectrum of adult health care workers such as physicians, nurses, administrative support, lab technicians, etc.
  • Interpret the role political factors play in the development of health policy and its impact on a health care organization’s adult education programs for medical and operational staff and leadership.
  • Construct a model for linking Failure Mode and Effects Analysis to adult education program planning and development in a specific health care environment.
  • Evaluate the role of adult education programs in a health care organization’s approach to improving performance as defined by the organization.
  • Justify the incorporation of adult education programs related to the competency level or mix required to meet patient needs and positive outcomes.
  • Appraise and explain the major contributions of the healthcare industry to the field of adult education.
  • Analyze and evaluate major contemporary issues in healthcare training and education programs.
