Ali Mageehon

Dr. Mageehon has ten years experience working in non-traditional education settings. She currently directs the Academic Support Center at New Mexico State University – Alamogordo, in addition to teaching developmental writing courses. She also teaches classes at JIU in the MEd and EdD programs.

Dr. Mageehon earned her PhD from the University of Denver in Higher Education and Adult Studies. She has worked in community college settings, teaching adult basic education and GED courses, as well as developmental reading and writing. She has published several articles focusing on developmental education and technology, women’s education in incarceration settings, and how space impacts writing center leadership. Her current research emphasizes the role of content subject matter in developmental skills courses. 

She also serves on the board of the Literacy Volunteers of America for Otero County and participates as a certification reviewer for the National Association for Developmental Education. She is certified through level two with the National College Learning Center Association.
