Judah Freed is a lifelong learner. A fourth-generation Coloradoan, he attended Adams State College and Metropolitan State College before launching a local journalsm career in 1976. He subsequently earned a dual 1988 BA in Communication and Journalism through the University Without Walls at Loretto Height College (Regis University) followed by graduate studies (all but thesis) in the Individualized MA program of Antioch University, emphasizing public and organizational communication. 

Starting in 1993, he began writing articles and columns for the top media trade magazines in the U.S. and Europe, pioneering the coverage of interactive and digital TV along with the emergence of the Internet and distance learning. He reported on Glenn Jones as a cable TV system operator and the “media visionary” behind Mind Extension University, Knowledge TV, and then Jones International University. In 1998, Financial Times M&T of London published his book-length report, Financial Opportunities in Educational Television.

As a sideline since 1978, Judah has taught adult education and college courses in English, creative writing, business communication, and the humanities for such diverse institutions as Denver Free University, National American University, and Community College of Aurora. Judah is passionate about “deep literacy” as vital for democracy to survive and thrive. Judah Freed is the author of the award-winning book, Global Sense, featured in 2007 and 2010 on C-SPAN’s Book TV.

At JIU, Judah is responsible for the clarity, quality and consistency of internal and external communications by the Academic Affairs team.
