Dr. Roy Sutton is the Director of Doctoral Programs at JIU, including the Doctorate of Education and the Doctorate of Business Administration degree programs. Dr. Sutton holds a PhD from Colorado State University, an EdS from the University of Georgia, and an MEd and BA from Georgia Southern University. For more than 30 years, he has taught at the secondary, postsecondary and university levels. He has administrative experience as a Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean and Campus President in both public and proprietary school settings.
Dr. Sutton also served as the Staff Education Director for the Saudi Arabian National Guard Health Affairs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He comes from a family of educators, and he is committed to the concept that education enriches the lives of everyone in our society. He is passionate about helping students achieve their goals and removing the roadblocks that prevent success.
Dr. Sutton is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and he has lived in Colorado for the past 20 years. In addition to living in Georgia, Colorado and Saudi Arabia, Roy has travelled extensively in Europe and the Middle East. He considers northern Germany and the Netherlands his second home. His personal passions are music, film, hiking in the Rockies and experiencing new cultures through world travel.
