The development of the JIU Teaching and Learning Commons is guided by the Committee on Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching (CoExist). The mission of the CoExist Committee is to inspire and support faculty excellence in scholarship and teaching.
The Teaching and Learning Commons provides Faculty Development in three primary areas identified by the CoExist Committee. These include:
- Gold Standard Orientation Courses for new JIU faculty members and students. (JIU700: Prepare to Teach for New Faculty, JIU800: Prepare to Mentor Doctoral Students, JIU501: Orientation for JIU Graduate Students, DOC900: Doctoral and Specialist Programs: Orientation)
- Faculty-to-Faculty networking and collaboration space. This virtual area includes a Faculty Café where faculty members can network and share best practices and research interests. There are also collaborative spaces where groups can form and work on research publications and presentations.
- Student-to-Faculty research collaboration space. Graduate students can review the biographies and research interests of the JIU graduate faculty and identify potential collaborative research and publication opportunities.
