COLLEGE NAVIGATOR (NATIONAL CENTER FOR EDUCATION STATISTICS)
The College Navigator is a free consumer information tool designed to help students, parents, high school counselors and others get information about Institutions of Higher Education. The College Navigator Website includes general information, Tuition & Fees, Financial Aid, Retention & Graduation Rates, Accreditation, Campus Security, Student Body Diversity and much more.
COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT AND FILE SHARING
Individuals who participate in the unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material, including unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing, may be subject to civil and criminal liabilities. A summary of the penalties for violation of Federal Copyright Laws and a description of JIU's policies with respect to unauthorized peer-to-peer file sharing, including disciplinary actions, can be found in Section Three of the Student Handbook.
PRIVACY OF STUDENT RECORDS - FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)
The U.S. Department of Education Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) provides people who are currently students or who were in attendance at JIU with certain legal rights with respect to their educational records. This includes the right to: 1) inspect and review; 2) amend education records; 3) consent to disclosure of education records; and 4) file a complaint. ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM
JIU is committed to a policy that requires its students, faculty and staff to exercise safe, healthy and legal choices regarding any alcohol or drug use in accordance with all federal, state and local laws concerning alcohol and illegal drug usage related to JIU activities. Violations will be reported to the appropriate law enforcement officials, and the individual(s) also will be subject to the JIU Student Code of Conduct, see Section Three of the Student Handbook.
In addition, a conviction for any offense, during a period of enrollment for which the student was receiving Title IV, HEA program funds, under any federal or state law involving the possession or sale of illegal drugs, will result in the loss of eligibility for any Title IV, HEA grant or loan. To regain eligibility for Title IV assistance once convicted of a drug or alcohol related offense, a student is required to complete successfully an approved drug rehabilitation program. Given its virtual environment, JIU is unable to provide onsite counseling or treatment options; however, there are many resources available. For more information see Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention in Section Seven of the Student Handbook.
CAMPUS SECURITY REPORT
JIU is committed to a safe and secure campus both online and in its physical location for all students, faculty and staff. Statistics are available for the current year and for the previous two years concerning crimes that occurred on campus, in or on non-campus buildings or property, and public property, on the College Navigator site.
NATURAL DISASTERS
JIU will make accommodations for students that live in the areas declared as natural disaster areas by the Federal Government. These accommodations include:
- Students in the admissions process who cannot submit all required documents for admission will be granted a deadline extension
- Faculty will accommodate the submission of assignments, in that students can submit assignments later than usual but no later than 2 weeks after the posted deadline, or they will be allowed to drop the course at no charge, and/or request a leave of absence, and be allowed to re-enroll without having to submit new paperwork.
- Students who are in the process of completing their application for financial aid will be given an additional 8 weeks to submit documents and accept their financial aid without incurring any late charges or fees.
These accommodations are based upon the student's residence and whether the area has been declared a natural disaster. Students needing to request accommodations due to natural disasters should contact their Student Support Counselor.
STUDENT OUTCOMES
GRADUATION RATES
The overall Graduation Rate also is known as the "Student Right to Know" or IPEDS graduation rate. It tracks the progress of students who began their studies as full-time, first-time degree- or certificate-seeking students to see if they complete a degree or other award such as a certificate within 150% of "normal time" for completing the program in which they are enrolled. Please note, however, that this graduation rate represents a small percentage of the JIU student body, as the majority of our students are part-time and/or continuing or transfer students.
RETENTION RATES
Retention Rates measure the percentage of first-time students who are seeking bachelor's degrees who return to the institution to continue their studies the following fall. Please note, however, that this retention rate represents a small percentage of the JIU student body, as the majority of our students are part-time, continuing, transfer or graduate students.
TITLE II INSTITUTIONAL & PROGRAM REPORT CARD (TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM REPORT)
The Title II Institutional and Program Report Card includes data on teacher preparation programs, annual goals, program completers and the pass rate for state licensure exams. Please note that this report represent Colorado students only.
REQUIRED PROGRAM DISCLOSURES (aka: GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT DISCLOSURES)
In an effort to help prospective students make the most informed decision about where to pursue higher education, the US Department of Education now requires Institutions of Higher Education to provide to students required information regarding each program. This information, referred to as Required Program Disclosures, includes potential occupations for which the program prepares students, tuition and fees, normal-time completion rates and median loan debt.
PLACEMENT IN EMPLOYMENT AND PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION FOR GRADUATES OF JIU PROGRAMS
JIU collects data, in the form of Alumni and Graduate Surveys, regarding the types of employment obtained by JIU graduates. In our most recent Alumni Survey (Eduventures, 2010), graduates reported working in the following industries: Education, Training and Library (40.0%); Business Services and Consulting (8.1%); Computer and Mathematical (7.3%); Office and Administrative Support (5.4%); Financial Services (5.4%); and Sales and Related (3.5%), one year after completion of their JIU program. Finally, nearly 22% of JIU graduates to date have returned to JIU to obtain further education in business or in education.
While JIU does not offer job placement services, we do offer services such as our Total Professional Advantage 2.0® Professional Development Program and Portal, which includes job and internship listings, career development videos, a resume building tool, career guides and many others.
